Global entrepreneurship movement

The scholars of Babson College and London Business School made the inception of Global entrepreneurship movement in the year of 1997. It is also known as the GEM. This global entrepreneurship movement has now developed into one of the biggest research consortia that are concerned with increasing our knowledge of the connection between entrepreneurship and national development. For several years data have been gathered on entrepreneurial attitudes, activities and aspirations to provide the yearly assessment of the entrepreneurial section for many countries.

Countries participating in Global entrepreneurship movement

The countries that are participating in the jam @ GEM are categorized in the following way.

Based on factor driven economies – There was almost forty three countries participating in the Global entrepreneurship movement in the year 2008. The countries that fall in the factor driven economies are Angola, Bolivia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, India and Iran.

Based on efficiency driven economies – The countries that fall under the efficiency driven countries are

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Hungary, Jamaica, Latvia, Macedonia, Mexico, Peru, Romania, Russia, Serbia, South Africa, Turkey, Uruguay.

Based on Innovation driven economies– These are the countries that are on the Global entrepreneurship movement based on innovation driven economies. Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, United Kingdom, United States.

One factor should be kept in mind that there are countries that had made transition from factor driven to efficiency driven. Also there are countries that have made a transition from efficiency driven to innovation driven.

The global entrepreneurship movement population survey

The global entrepreneurship movement considers the view on entrepreneurship in a broad way and it usually focuses on the roles that are played by different individuals in the process of entrepreneurship. The adult population survey of GEM does a work of asking a representative sample in each country to know about the attitude they have towards entrepreneurship. The representative is selected from two thousands adults in the country. Before venturing into a new business GEM generally collects data from various sources on the attitude and perception of individuals towards entrepreneurship.
